A new survey from the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and Forrester Research found that 78% of advertisers feel that over the last two years television advertising has lost effectiveness, and - as a direct result - marketers are exploring emerging technologies to help bolster their television advertising spend. The ANA predicts that 80% of advertisers will generally spend more of their advertising budget on Web advertising and 68% of advertisers will look to search engine marketing. Many people predict a similar trend for email, advertising in magazines and eventually traditional direct mail. After all, the decision to read or not read body copy is consistently made within 20 seconds of opening a direct mail piece. Worse yet, over 50% of direct mail is tossed away without anybody reading anything. Media fragmentation has lessened the effectiveness of mass media.
